How To Test A Car Battery

An informed car owner knows how to self-diagnose issues with their vehicles. That is why we here at Koons Silver Spring Ford Lincoln want to walk you through the process of testing your car battery.

The first thing you should always do is to turn the car and all of the lights in your car off. You do not want to take a voltage measurement from your car battery when your vehicle is running. Next, connect the negative end of a voltmeter to the black terminal and the positive end to the red terminal of your car battery. The voltmeter will then give you a number in volts. Anything above 12.4 volts means you have a properly functioning battery while anything below this level means you should have it replaced as quickly as possible.

If you would like our service team to either test or replace your car battery, then be sure to stop on by and visit at Koons Silver Spring Ford Lincoln today!
